Horizon Lakes breaks ground in Rockwall County with 900-acre master plan that blends luxury homes, nature, and resort-style living just 30 miles from Dalla

Rockwall, Texas – Huffines Enterprises just broke ground on Horizon Lakes, a big new housing complex planned for Rockwall County. The ceremonial event took place at the project’s future site off Farm to Market Road 550. It marked the opening of Phase 1 of what would become a 900-acre master-planned community.

There are around 590 homesites in Phase 1 of Horizon Lakes, as well as a lakefront amenities center that will be a key gathering spot for residents. The whole development is expected to have 1,800 residences and a lot of high-end facilities that will make it a mix of nature, recreation, and modern life.

The groundbreaking drew a large crowd, including local politicians, development partners, and community members. There were people there from both the McLendon-Chisholm and Heath City Councils, as well as McLendon-Chisholm Mayor Bryan McNeal and Rockwall County City Manager Lorne Liechty. Colin Huffines, Vice President and Project Manager, joined Don and Phillip Huffines, the owners of Huffines Enterprises, to talk about the company’s vision for the community.

Colin Huffines talked about the master plan for Horizon Lakes during the event. He stressed that the project would focus on nature-friendly design and resort-style facilities. The comments showed that the corporation has always wanted to build locations that are comfortable, luxurious, and connected to nature.

“Horizon Lakes represents our family legacy and vision to create a nature-forward, resort-style community in one of the most desirable areas in Texas,” said Huffines. “We’re proud to work alongside experienced homebuilders and partner with local officials to bring this thoughtfully planned community to life, and we’re just getting started!”

Engineers, land planners, builders, and real estate agents, who helped with the development, were all there to celebrate. CastleRock Communities, Pulte houses, and Toll Brothers are the first builders for Horizon Lakes. The first houses are expected to be built in 2027.

The homes should cost between $500,000 and $2 million, which means they will be accessible for a wide spectrum of consumers. Horizon Lakes will have more than just residences. It will also have a recreational lake, a lakeside restaurant, an amphitheater, and an event area, as well as lots of hiking and biking routes.

Horizon Lakes is only 30 miles east of Dallas in the McLendon-Chisholm and Heath districts. It will also give you access to the highly ranked Rockwall Independent School District. The goal of the development is to draw in families that want a community that is close to both nature and city activities, has beautiful surroundings, good schools, and a lifestyle-oriented community.
