New Rockwall County bus tour invites residents to explore the stories that shaped their Texas community

Rockwall, Texas – With the nation’s 250th anniversary drawing closer, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation is inviting residents to take a fresh look at the local stories that helped shape their corner of Texas. The nonprofit is opening its America’s 250 observance with the debut of the Texas Time Bus Tour, a new community event designed to connect the county’s past with the milestone celebration ahead.

The first tour is set for Saturday, April 4, leaving at 10 a.m. from the Rockwall County Historical Museum at 901 E. Washington St. Interest arrived fast. Organizers said the inaugural ride filled up quickly, prompting the foundation to add a second tour on Saturday, April 18 so more people can climb aboard.

Led by local historian Mark Russo, the guided experience will carry passengers across Rockwall County, stopping at historic locations and tracing the people, places and turning points that helped define the area. Along the way, guests will hear stories from the county’s early days, learn how its communities took shape, and see how local history fits into the larger story of Texas and the United States.

The foundation sees the tour as more than a simple outing. It is meant to serve as an opening chapter in a broader effort to mark America’s 250th anniversary in 2026 by encouraging residents and visitors to reflect on the legacy of the county they know today. By bringing history out of display cases and onto the road, the organization hopes to make the past feel close, alive and personal.

Founded in 1978, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation is a Texas nonprofit 501(c)(3) created to collect, preserve and share the county’s history. Through exhibits at the museum, educational programs and public events, the group works to keep those stories available for future generations.

Organizers say the Texas Time Bus Tour celebrates not just what came before, but also the character that still defines the community. In their view, Rockwall County’s journey from pioneer beginnings to the present is a story worth revisiting as the country approaches a historic national anniversary.

Tickets are $30 per person, and the tour is open to ages 6 and older. Seating is limited. More information is available at rockwallcountymuseum.com.
