Rockwall County, Texas – Rockwall County’s Precinct 2 commissioner Dana K. Macalik has officially announced her intention to seek re-election. Macalik made the statement during this year’s Independence Day parades in Heath and Rockwall. She talked about how important it is to her to keep the county’s quality of life high even as it grows quickly.
Macalik, a fifth-generation Rockwall County resident, said she is focused on strategic planning, working together, and infrastructure. She said she remains committed to leading expansion in a way that represents the values of the community while pushing back against what she calls “increasing government overreach.”
“There is still a lot of growth left in our county; therefore, we need to continue to create better channels of communications and increased alignment between citizens, developers and elected officials. These are opportunities and investments that can’t be wasted,” Macalik said. “Protecting our quality of life with improved transportation and critical infrastructure is a necessity. We can’t ignore the importance of addressing our natural resources and open spaces which brought many citizens to Rockwall in the first place.”
One of Macalik’s most important jobs has been to lead the county’s Strategic Plan 2050. The Rockwall County Commissioners Court voted unanimously in April 2025 to adopt the plan, which had been worked on by a planning committee for 18 months. Macalik says it makes it evident how to meet long-term needs for transportation, infrastructure, and land preservation.
“A huge thank you goes out to the many individuals, citizens and team members who participated in the plan that embodies a shared vision for a prosperous and vibrant Rockwall County for future generations.” Macalik said.
Macalik started her current term on January 1, 2023, when Commissioner Lee Gilbert stepped down after two terms. Her current term will end at the end of 2026. Before taking office, she served more than five years on the Rockwall City Council and previously led the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce as CEO.
Along with her job on the commissioners court, Macalik is on a number of important boards and committees, such as the Transportation/Infrastructure Consortium, Emergency Services Corporation, Star Transit, and Juvenile Services. She is also a member of the Texas Association of Counties and the Conference of Urban Counties, which are both statewide positions .
Macalik continues to participate in civic life in her hometown. She currently serves as the president of the Rotary Foundation and works with the Rockwall Noon Rotary. She has worked in real estate for a long time, but she has also been a leader in business and done community service.
