Rockwall County residents invited to pack food bags and restore dignity for local children as Kiwanis fights weekend hunger one bag at a time

Rockwall County, Texas – The Kiwanis Club of Rockwall County is once again asking the community for help with a purpose that goes beyond the classroom as the new school year approaches. Their Food For Kids program, which helps kids who are hungry on the weekends, is getting ready for another busy season, and they need all the help they can get.

During the school year, the initiative sends more than 600 food bags to children in need every month. These bags are full of kid-friendly, non-perishable foods that will last through the weekend when school lunches aren’t available. It’s a simple idea, but for a lot of kids in Rockwall County, it’s a lifeline.

The Kiwanis Club needs both volunteers and money to keep this important work going. There will be times to pack lunches on August 12, September 9, and October 7. All of the activities will be held at Divine Peace Church in Rockwall, giving people a chance to get their hands dirty and make a real difference.

“With rising food costs, every dollar and donation counts,” said a Kiwanis Secretary, Kate Sitzenstatter. “Just $4 can feed a child for the weekend, and every bit helps us reach the children who need it most.”

Supporters can contribute in several ways. Monetary donations are accepted online at rockwallkiwanis.org/donations. Additionally, those who prefer to give directly can purchase items from the group’s Amazon Wishlist, streamlining the process of putting food into the hands of those who need it most.

The Kiwanis Club does a lot more than just give money to charity. They are dedicated to making sure that no child in Rockwall County goes hungry when school cafeterias close for the weekend. With help from the community, this quiet but effective initiative keeps giving meals, care, and a sense of dignity to the youngest members of the community. It also reminds them that someone is looking out for them.
