Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said that anyone who offers information that leads to the arrest of Benjamin Hanil Song, who is wanted in connection with a violent ambush at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Alvarado, will get up to $10,000 in reward. On July 4, 2025, an Alvarado police officer suffered injuries in the incident, which has led to a huge manhunt by law enforcement across the state.
Song, who is 32 years old, is now one of the ten most wanted criminals in Texas. He is wanted for a number of serious crimes, such as helping terrorists, attacking a public worker with a lethal weapon, and being part of a criminal organization. A federal arrest warrant has also been issued for Song, accusing him of trying to kill a federal officer and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Governor Abbott said in a statement that the incident was a planned act of violence against law enforcement.
“The targeted attacks against our federal law enforcement officers is a crime and must end,” said Governor Abbott. “Criminals such as Benjamin Hanil Song will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I encourage Texans with information to call the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline or submit an anonymous tip online. Texas is and always will be a law-and-order state.”
The Governor’s Public Safety Office is giving out a $10,000 state prize. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is adding another $25,000, bringing the total to $35,000.
Authorities say that Song is an Asian man who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. His hair is black and his eyes are brown. Officials have told the public that he is armed and dangerous.
The gunshot happened during an attack on the ICE facility in Johnson County. Even though not all the circumstances of the ambush have been made public, it has been labeled as an act of organized violence. The wounded officer is recovering, and officials have not disclosed the extent of the injuries.
Texans are urged to send in tips through a number of different ways while staying anonymous. You can give information by calling the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477), sending a web tip through the Texas 10 Most Wanted website, or filling out the online form. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous by law, and those providing information will receive a tip number instead of having to identify themselves.
Law enforcement organizations advise that people should not try to get close to or capture Song. They should instead call the police right away if they know anything that could help them catch him.
