Rockwall, Texas – Residents in Rockwall will have a chance to roll up their sleeves and rethink their yards next month as a hands-on landscaping event comes to town.
On Saturday, March 7, the North Texas Municipal Water District will host a free “Homeowners Guide to Landscaping” workshop from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The event is open to the public and is designed for anyone curious about improving their outdoor spaces while making smarter use of water. Organizers say families are welcome, and kid-friendly crafts will be available to keep younger attendees engaged.
The morning will center on practical advice from local specialists who understand the unique demands of North Texas weather. Participants can learn how to replace traditional turf with native plants that are better suited to the region’s climate. Experts will also walk homeowners through basic irrigation repair, including how to spot common sprinkler problems and make simple fixes that improve efficiency. Another session, focused on landscape maintenance, will offer straightforward tips for keeping yards healthy throughout the year.
Beyond the main talks, the event will feature live demonstrations that bring the lessons to life. Attendees can watch step-by-step irrigation repair techniques and see how the “cycle and soak” watering method helps reduce runoff. Additional demonstrations will cover organic pest control options, fertilizer alternatives, and the installation of rain barrels. Organizers will also explain how harvested rainwater can be used effectively in home landscapes.
Those who attend will not leave empty-handed. Free giveaways will be provided, and participants will have opportunities to enter drawings for prizes related to water-wise landscaping.
More details about the event, including updates and ways to share it with others, are available through the North Texas Municipal Water District’s Facebook event page.
