Austin, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jay Bueche of New Braunfels to the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board, placing an experienced pharmacy leader in a role tied to the state’s broader work on drug access and medical supply costs.
Bueche’s term is scheduled to run through February 1, 2031. During that time, the board is expected to help develop a business plan focused on providing cost-effective drugs and other medical supplies for the public employee sector. The appointment adds a professional with years of pharmacy, compliance and retail health care experience to a governing body built around a practical goal: finding ways to make needed medical products more affordable for public employees.
Bueche currently serves as managing director of pharmacy for H-E-B, one of Texas’ best-known companies. His work there follows earlier leadership roles as director of third party and director of pharmacy compliance, giving him a background that reaches across daily pharmacy operations, payment systems and regulatory responsibilities.
His experience also extends into pharmacy education. Bueche is an adjunct faculty member at the University of the Incarnate Word’s Feik School of Pharmacy and serves as a preceptor at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. Through those roles, he has been connected not only to the business and compliance side of pharmacy, but also to the training of future professionals entering the field.
Bueche is also active in professional organizations connected to pharmacy practice and drug programs. He is a member of the Texas Pharmacy Association, the Texas Federation of Drug Stores Board of Directors and the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs. Those affiliations reflect his involvement in wider industry discussions beyond a single company or institution.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin, grounding his career in the same state where he will now help guide the pharmaceutical initiative’s work.
With the appointment, Abbott has selected someone whose background combines pharmacy management, compliance, education and professional service. For the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board, that mix of experience may prove important as it works toward a plan centered on cost-effective drugs and medical supplies for the public employee sector.
