Dallas-based Atmos Energy gives huge donation to North Texas Food Bank

Dallas, Texas – Atmos Energy is reaffirming its dedication to address food poverty by a generous $100,000 donation to the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), as North Texas struggles with high rates of hunger. Under its “Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities” program, Atmos Energy’s larger $2 million initiativeis part of helping food banks spread over eight states. Atmos Energy, which has its headquarters in Dallas, is the biggest natural gas-only distributor in the United States; its emphasis on community welfare transcends energy provision to handle urgent problems like hunger in the communities it supplies.

Since their alliance started in 2006, Atmos Energy has given the food bank around $700,000 in support with their most recent donation to the NTFB. For North Texas residents experiencing food insecurity, these gifts have turned into more than two million meals for households and individuals.

Apart from financial support, Atmos Energy has become recognizable in the society through staff volunteer projects and awareness-raising campaigns concerning poverty. To help young students comprehend hunger and its effects, the corporation worked with the NTFB in 2023 to provide a children’s book called Hunger Bugs Me! to 785 elementary schools in the area.

For Atmos Energy, social responsibility is embedded in every aspect of the business.

“Addressing hunger requires substantial resources, and these funds aim to support food banks that collaborate with local charities, schools, churches, and shelters to assist families struggling to meet their basic needs,” said Jan Rugg, Coordinating Manager of Public Affairs at Atmos Energy.

“Giving back to our communities is integral to Atmos Energy’s culture. Last year alone, our employees volunteered nearly 43,000 hours to support local initiatives and nonprofits. We contributed over $12 million to more than 1,400 organizations through our Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities program,” Rugg added.

Rugg underlined that the fight against hunger calls not only food but also a network of resources Atmos Energy is committed to create in cooperation with the NTFB.

Emphasizing the need of such alliances in tackling the concerning hunger rates in the area, Trisha Cunningham, NTFB President and CEO, praised Atmos Energy for their continuous support.

“Atmos Energy’s generous support is crucial as we work to ensure every North Texan has access to nutritious food. With Texas having the highest hunger rates in the nation and our service area ranking fourth in food insecurity, this donation is vital for serving the nearly 778,000 individuals facing hunger in North Texas,” Cunningham said.
