Texas – Especially recognizable for its large travel centers scattered over Texas roads, Buc-ee’s has long been the reigning champion in the cutthroat environment of convenience stores in Texas. But the scene is changing as Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores works strategically to increase its footprint in the Lone Star State.
Usually a mainstay of the Midwest with a strong presence in 17 states, Casey’s is poised to become more prominent in Texas with the opening of three new stores. These forthcoming sites in Gun Barrel City, Paris, and Granbury represent a major turning point in Casey’s strategy to gain more ground in Texas, where Buc-ee’s now has 35 stores. Recent filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations indicate that the building of these new stores is likely to start with a fast development phase early next year aiming completion by the end of February 2025.
The new Casey’s stores will be situated in 2309 West Main in Gun Barrel City, 2101 Weatherford Hwy in Granbury, 2610 North Main in Paris. Every site will be fully rebuilt with an eye toward shelves and equipment updates in every 1,500-square-foot space. The expenditure for these improvements runs from roughly $429,000 to $434,000 per store, suggesting a large outlay in making sure these new stores are ready to satisfy consumer expectations.
Although Casey’s may be less common in Texas than Buc-ee’s, its smart store locations and range of services provide great impact. Along with being the third-largest convenience store chain in the country, Casey’s is also the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States. Their well-known handcrafted pizzas, a trademark of the Casey’s brand, have mostly earned this praise since they have helped them create a devoted consumer base much beyond their Midwest origins.
Casey’s Texas expansion plan reflects their awareness of the need of both quantity and quality. Having more than 2,600 locations around the country, their steady expansion in Texas shows a strategic attempt to enter new markets and provide more customers with their special mix of convenience retail and excellent food options.
As both chains fight for the patronage of both residents and visitors, this competitive drive into Buc-ee’s territory highlights a rising rivalry in the convenience store industry in Texas. Casey’s new acquisitions help to close the difference in the number of stores each runs across the state, therefore enabling a more intense struggle for convenience store supremacy in Texas.

Residents and visitors of Gun Barrel City, Paris, and Granbury will soon have more choices for fast stops and delicious meals on-the-go as these new stores prepare to open. This expansion is not just about store counts; it’s about offering communities greater convenience and a testament to the dynamic nature of the retail landscape in Texas.
