Texas – Under Governor Greg Abbott’s management, in 2024 Texas reaffirmed that it leads the world in the energy sector. Governor Abbott underlined throughout the year the state’s central importance in the energy sector and boldly called Texas the “energy capital of the world.” As Texas keeps growing its electric capacity and adopts an inclusive strategy to energy development—that is, significant investments in several power sources to satisfy the state’s rising energy needs—this classification comes as natural.
Governor Abbott has been outspoken about the vital contribution the employees in the energy sector make in reaching these benchmarks.
“Texas would not be the energy capital of the world without the hard work of the men and women of the energy industry,” said Governor Abbott. “As Texas continues to experience unprecedented growth, we will remain a leader in energy while also bolstering the Texas grid to meet the growing demands of our great state. In the last twelve months, we increased dispatchable power capabilities of the grid ensuring that every Texan has access to affordable and reliable power,” Gov. Abbott said.

Governor Abbott emphasized Texas’s leadership in wind power generation and utility-scale solar capacity throughout several public events, including fireside chats and meetings around the state. He pointed out at the annual gathering of the Dallas Citizens Council earlier this month that these successes firmly place Texas at the lead of global renewable energy generation. Furthermore, Abbott’s government has been trying to establish Texas as a center for the nuclear energy supply chain, a step expected to significantly increase the capacity of the state grid.

Abbott was talking about the Texas Energy Fund in November at the Lone Star Energy Forum, stressing the need of giving nuclear energy first priority in order to satisfy the state’s growing energy consumption. This project fits Texas’s more general plan to make use of a varied mix of energy sources, therefore guaranteeing dependability and sustainability.
At the Texas Electricity Policy Summit in April, Governor Abbott underlined his proactive energy policies even further, stressing Texas’s leadership in the renewable energy market and the ongoing relevance of fossil fuels. He also highlighted legislative successes including the establishment of the Texas Energy Fund, which will channel up to $10 billion in the next four years into building or expanding new dispatchable power plants throughout the state.

At a joint summit with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt earlier in the year, Abbott honored Texas’s energy achievements including previously unheard-of crude oil and natural gas production levels. These successes underline how important the state is in the national energy scene since it acts as a barrier against federal overreach into energy generation.
Furthermore, major actions were done to improve Texas’s power system, best shown by the groundbreaking ceremony for two new peaker power plants run by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) in Maxwell, estimated to add hundreds of megawatts to the Texas grid.
Last month, Governor Abbott and the Public Utility Commission of Texas released the final report of the Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Working Group, which details strategies to lead in advanced nuclear power in a major shift. Apart from improving energy safety and electric dependability, this project is supposed to boost economic growth and generate new opportunities inside the Texas workforce.
Driven by thorough investments in a wide spectrum of energy sources and creative policies supporting long-term sustainability and prosperity, Texas is positioned to continue leading in the worldwide energy market as it approaches 2025. Clearly committed to preserving Texas’s reputation as the world’s energy capital, Governor Abbott opens the path for a strong and dependable energy future.
