Dallas, Texas – Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is starting a big new project dubbed “Mission Pawsible” that will make the summer season a lifesaving smash in Dallas. DAS is asking everyone in Dallas to take part in a citywide adoption and foster campaign from July 1 to July 31. This push comes since shelters across Texas are getting overcrowded. The goal is to find homes for 1,200 pets by the end of the month.
DAS isn’t just asking for support; they’re calling the community to join a high-stakes mission that feels like a summer thriller. This month, everyone who adopts or fosters a pet isn’t just getting a new pet; they’re becoming a real-life hero by accomplishing a task that will help Dallas stay at the top of the list of places that save animals.
“We know Dallas doesn’t back down from a challenge,” says Paul Ramon, Director of Dallas Animal Services, in a news release. “Last year, the Dallas community adopted more than 12,000 pets from DAS, making our shelter one of the top-performing in the nation. We are on track for another banner year of adoptions, and we’re calling on every neighborhood, family, and pet lover to step up, save a life, and be the Mission Pawsible hero these pets are waiting for.”
The Dallas90 effort, which strives to keep the city’s shelter save rate above 90%, includes the Mission Pawsible challenge. DAS wants to get more people to adopt, foster, or tell their friends about the cause by getting more people involved in the community during the busiest months of the year.
To make it even better, adoptions are free all month. The first 1,200 people who adopt will get a special edition Mission Pawsible T-shirt. There is also a “Community Challenge.” If you tell a friend to adopt a pet, both of you will be entered to win one of five gift baskets with pet themes.

The shelter is going all out with themed weekends, chances to take pictures, free stuff, and special adoption highlights. Pets that are available for adoption will be shown as “Ready for Deployment,” and a live Mission Dashboard will show everyone how close they are to reaching their goal of 1,200 pets.
“Dallas Animal Services is stepping up in a big way to save lives this summer,” said Sophia Proler, South Central Director for Best Friends Animal Society. “At a time when shelters across Texas are overcrowded, this campaign is exactly the kind of creative, community-driven action that makes a real difference—and it’s why DAS led the state in adoptions in 2024. We’re proud to support their work and every adopter who answers this call to help pets in need.”
