Mansfield, Texas – State Representative David Cook has formally started his candidacy for Texas Senate District 22. This comes after longtime Senator Brian Birdwell announced his retirement. Cook said in his statement that he has a lot of respect for Senator Birdwell’s years of public service and the legacy he leaves behind.
“Today, I’m officially announcing my campaign for Texas Senate,” said Representative Cook. “Senator Birdwell is the personification of a servant leader, in both word and deed. His 15 years of steadfast service to SD 22, combined with a lifetime of devotion to public service, leaves behind enormous shoes to fill,” Cook added.
Cook is now the State Representative for Texas House District 96. He has held this post for three terms. He talked about how quickly the area is growing and changing, and how those changes have created both problems and opportunities.
“It has been a great privilege to represent the people of House District 96. Over the years, we’ve faced a wave of growth and change, bringing both opportunities and challenges that continue to impact our way of life. These realities don’t stop at district lines. They affect communities across SD 22 in much the same way.,” Cook said in the release.
Emphasizing his commitment to the area, Cook noted his readiness to address pressing issues that transcend district boundaries.
“I am stepping forward because these challenges require experience, follow-through, and the time necessary to commit fully to the work ahead,” he added.
Cook has worked in public service before, including as Mayor of Mansfield from 2008 to 2021. He works as the Managing Partner at Harris Cook L.L.P. He and his wife Tonya have lived in Mansfield for a long time. They have a big family with four kids, six grandkids, and another grandkid on the way.
Cook concluded by looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, stating, “While we’ve accomplished a great deal, there’s more work to be done! I look forward to hitting the campaign trail to earn the support of the people of Texas Senate District 22.”
