Rockwall community awaits answers as legal proceedings unfold in heartbreaking capital murder case involving child

Rockwall, Texas – A Rockwall woman remains in jail, facing capital murder charges, for an incident that took place more than three months ago when her 9-year-old daughter was stabbed to death.

Allison Elizabeth French, 37, is now being held in the Gregg County Jail on a $2 million bond. French was first detained on March 29 in Cass County, Texas, when police got an emergency call about a child who sustained severe injuries at a house near Bloomburg, which is close to the Texas-Louisiana border.

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe says that deputies got the call from a neighbor at about 6:40 a.m. Jacki Kubin, the child’s grandmother, is said to have rushed to the neighbor’s house to get help immediately. Kubin told police that she woke up early that morning to discover French beating up her daughter Abigail. Kubin tried to help her granddaughter and protect her, but she got hurt severely that she couldn’t call emergency services herself.

When the police got there, they found Abigail, who was only a child, with life-threatening stab wounds. She was soon taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately, she died from her injuries just before 9:30 a.m.

After the incident, French got into a car and drove away, which led to a quick search by local police. Not long after that, the car was found abandoned nearby. A drone that Cass County volunteer firefighters used helped them locate French. Authorities discovered her hiding nearby, suffering from self-inflicted wounds. She was taken into jail immediately and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

French stayed in the Cass County Jail for about a month before being sent to the Gregg County Jail on April 30. Because the victim was under 10 years old, official records show that she is charged with capital murder. In Texas, being found guilty of these kinds of crimes can lead to very harsh punishments, such as the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Officials have not disclosed the motive behind the horrific incident. Investigators are still carefully examining the material they collected at the site and via subsequent interviews. Also, the officials have not made it clear to the public why French was moved from Cass County Jail to Gregg County Jail.

The Rockwall neighborhood and others who knew the family are still very upset over the tragedy and are hoping for further information while the legal process moves slowly. For now, Allison French remains incarcerated, her future uncertain, while the community mourns the tragic loss of 9-year-old Abigail.
